Dressel Classic

If you’re from the neighborhood, then this cake needs no explanation.  A few years ago the Southtown ran a series of articles in search of the Dressel cake.  The south-side bakeries came together to try to recreate this lost recipe.

After a lot of research, experimentation, and feedback from customers, we feel like this is the cake you love and remember.  Old folks who grew up walking to Dressel’s Bakery will tell us how much this cake reminds them of the old neighborhood.

I’m an ex-Chicagoan & have been searching for a Dressel cake for many years. Do you take orders and is it possible to mail to Naples, FL?

This is fantastic! I am going to pass this along to my other family members. My fondest childhood memories are going into the bakery to visit my Dad. If he was still alive, he would be thrilled to see this.

As a child, I attended grade school with the oldest of the three Dressel brothers. Along with tasting a Dressel Cake once again(and they were fantastic), I would love to know how the brothers are doing.

When I was young, my mother would always order a Dressel’s cake for my birthdays. That continued until I was 20 years old. After I married and had my own home, I would buy the Dressel’s cakes, which for a number of years were available frozen at the supermarkets. I am 70 years old now and did some research a few years ago and found Wolf’s. Their recipe is very close to what I remember. To avoid being disappointed, call ahead to reserve your cake or you will be out of luck.
